A floor composition built around a single violation of its own surface. What reads as a sealed wooden lid has failed, and something beneath it has claimed the opening.

Design Story

The design uses a hexagonal, coffin-like footprint with an ornate bronze cross anchoring the upper left and matching scrollwork at each corner — a formal, symmetrical frame holding a deeply unruly centre. Weathered planks run in ordered courses until they splinter outward in dynamic, raw-edged shards. Two focal points share the tension: a skull with narrow red eyes glowing from the dark gap, and a clawed skeletal hand pushing up through the broken boards. Heavy chains cross the breach diagonally, restraint failing in real time. The palette stays in aged browns, bronze and ember red, so the eyes read as the brightest point on the whole plane.

Entryway & Styling

On a doormat the illusion works best from standing height, where the rectangular threshold becomes a lid in the floor. The motif is scaled large and centred, with the decorative border easing the artwork toward the edges. Entry-scale presence, deliberately unsettling.

Size & Dimensions

Available sizes: 16" × 24", 20" × 32", 24" × 36", 30" × 40".

An entryway treated as a threshold in the fuller sense — a surface that no longer holds.
