Design Story

The composition is a classic centred medallion, but the storytelling happens in the ring of objects circling the figure. A sheathed sword, a paper umbrella, a labelled bottle, a wicker basket, a stack of ribbon-bound books, a bone-in roast, onigiri in a bento box, dango, and a bowl of fruit. A dark banner with a flaming skull emblem stands to the right. The palette stays warm and faded, cream and dusty rose against black, and the border does real work: pink gingham checks, painted cherry blossoms, and diamond cartouches carrying the character ? and small skull marks at the corners. Nothing shouts. The contrast between soft florals and hard emblems gives the surface its personality.
